SMART Cables Report at the 9th ICG/PTWS-IUGG Joint Tsunami Commission Technical Workshop and ICG/PTWS-XXXI
Ceci Rodríguez Cruz presented the latest Report of the SMART Subsea Cables Joint Task Force at the 9th ICG/PTWS-IUGG Joint Tsunami Commission Technical Workshop and the Thirty-First Session of the Intergovernmental Coordination Group for the Pacific Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System (ICG/PTWS-XXXI), held in Beijing, China.
This important gathering brought together experts, scientists, and decision-makers from across the Pacific to enhance regional collaboration and strengthen early warning and mitigation systems for tsunamis and ocean-related hazards.
The SMART Report highlighted:
Significant progress of the SMART Cables initiative across multiple regions
Updates on funded systems in Portugal and France
Key developments in the Pacific, particularly the Tamtam system between Vanuatu and New Caledonia
The growing global collaboration driving the integration of environmental sensors (seismic, pressure, temperature) into subsea telecom cables to benefit science and society.
